About

The Purpose

About half the way through January 2012, I started blogging on a regular basis. That year I challenged myself to write 365 days of blogs, a blog a day. Eventually I ended up with The Songs of Spring, a blog format which basically consisted of me waxing poetic (and sometimes pathetic) on the daily goings-on of my existence.

One of the most significant parts of my blogging experience from January 2012 to January 2013 involved the three months I spent studying in London at University College London. Because I was required to write every single day, I documented my entire experience studying abroad in the city that I've loved since first visiting in 2007.

Leaving London behind was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, which is why looking forward to the future I plan to live there again - permanently.

Until I have the opportunity, though, I plan to do as much preparation for my time in London as possible. As a journalist, I know there are multitudes of information available to me on the internet, and that being thousands of miles away does not mean I can't feel I'm in a place vicariously.

I'm dedicating The London Actually to the express purpose of preparing me for my time in London by way of a series of essays - both personal and journalistic - that will function as both a travelogue and a research venture into the best that London has to offer. Hopefully what I come up with is the groundwork for a great time in my favorite city, and maybe I can share a bit of my knowledge and passion for it with you as well.

The Name

It seems that practically any name you could possibly think of for a blog is taken. And most often, the owners of said blogs rarely use them - if ever.

I attempted to start a blog called "London Actually," which would pay homage to one of my favorite films (set in London), Love Actually. But when I searched for a Blogger page with the name, I discovered it already existed, last used in 2006.

Thankfully, I had a back-up plan. Since my original blog, The Songs of Spring had a "The" in the title, I decided to keep the trend coming. That's where The London Actually comes from. And if you ask me, the name The London Actually is better than London Actually anyway.

Me

I am a girl and a writer and a recent graduate of university. I don't quite know what I'm doing with my life yet, but until I figure it out - and even once I've figured it out - I will always enjoy having a place to share my thoughts. That's why this blog (and my other blogs) exist.
